It is easy to fall into the trap of a negative mindset. Being pessimistic. Seeing the clouds instead of the silver lining. And you may have even succumbed to believing one of these top five excuses that are keeping you stuck in a mindset of lack and scarcity.
1. I don’t know where to start.
Also known as being overwhelmed.
If this is your current reality, I understand where you’re coming from. Believe me, I’ve been there too. With information and social media coming at you from every angle and with people eager to tell you their way is the best, it’s easy to see why you can feel overwhelmed.
It can be difficult to sift through all of the information overload to find what resonates with YOU. And while it can feel overwhelming at first, once you dive deeper into working on your mindset, you will find the rhythm and flow of what speaks to your heart and soul.
Part of the problem with this excuse is that it also tends to put you into a state of fearful paralysis. Not knowing where to begin can make even the strongest person stand still, like a deer caught in the headlights.
This very excuse is one of the reasons why I do the work I do. I feel it is so important to provide a safe space for people just like you to explore the different avenues of changing your mindset. And at the same time, I help you to sift through what works for you as a unique individual.
2. It is too difficult to change.
Also known as “I’m too old” or “you can’t teach an old dog new tricks”.
Committing to change is truly all about mindset. If you have even the slightest desire to change, then change IS possible.
Consider this: thinking that it is difficult to change is a belief you have created. You believe this thought to be true.
But can you be 100% absolutely certain that changing your mindset will be difficult? Do you know 100% without a shadow of a doubt that this is true?
Now, consider the opposite thought; that it will be easy to change.
Ask yourself the same question: can you be 100% absolutely certain that changing your mindset will be easy? Do you know 100% without a shadow of a doubt that this is true?
Chances are, you can not be 100% certain of either thought to be an absolute truth.
So if one thought takes you further away from your goal of changing your mindset, and the other thought takes you closer to your goal, and neither is 100% certain – why would you want to believe the first? Why would you not want to at least think the thought that it will be easy?
I guarantee that you will have a 100% better chance of making a lasting change when you first adjust your belief regarding the ease of the change.
3. I have no support.
Feeling like you are alone on your journey can be difficult, especially if you are entering unknown territory. If you do not have a support system of like-minded family or friends, sometimes it is easy to fall back into your old routine and way of doing things.
Finding a community of like-minded people is a great way to overcome this excuse. Whether it be on social media, such as a Facebook group, or in person, such as a women’s circle, finding your community of support is essential to creating last change.
One of my values in my business is Community. I believe in supporting women by providing an inspiring and supportive community through my Facebook group, Bloom.
I welcome you to join us in the group if you are wanting extra support. There is nothing better than being able to talk about your struggles with other people walking the same path.
4. I have no time.
Also known as “this is going to take forever”.
My friend, we are all given the exact same amount of minutes in a day. We all have 1,440 minutes every day to be exact.
You, me, Beyonce, and Oprah all have been given this amount of time. What we do with the time is the key.
Time is a non-renewable resource in your life. You need to be intentional with what you do with it.
Are you spending countless minutes that turn into hours scrolling Facebook, the ‘Gram or Pinterest? Maybe you are binge-watching the last season of Hell’s Kitchen. No judgment here, because I can fall into this trap as well.
But the key is to recognize when you are mindlessly wasting time versus taking a break and recharging yourself.
Changing a habit does not need to be all-consuming. If you are concerned about the time commitment, start small. Maybe it means sitting in silence for 2 minutes every morning before getting out of bed. Maybe it is listening to that positive affirmation audio on your commute to work.
When something is truly important, you will carve out the time, even in small amounts throughout your day. Every step forward creates momentum towards lasting change.
5. What’s the point?
If this is your mindset, then I am sorry to tell you that there is not much anyone can do if you do not want to first help yourself. The desire to change really is an inside job.
I can try to motivate and inspire you and give you all of the beautiful uplifting motivational quotes and guidance. But if you are not receptive and open to even the possibility of change, then, unfortunately, it will all fall upon deaf ears.
You can also watch the YouTube video where I go into greater depth about each of these 5 excuses.
I know, however, that if you are here this excuse is not a problem for you. I know that you can overcome whatever excuses your mind and ego are throwing at you. We can do this together.
